Bells Beach

(The picture to the left is on the Great Ocean Road. We figured it was necessary to capture us driving on the wrong side of the road.)

We arrived in koala land yesterday morning (which was evening for you guys) and did the airport/customs thing for awhile before picking up our rental car. We did paper rock scissors to decide who would drive. I must have lost because I am the official driver on this continent whose people drive and sit on the opposite side!! Its so crazy! The good news is everything has went fine so far. Actually Jess is practically a driver too because she has to coach me through every turn so that we make sure we end up on the correct side of the road (my parents blood pressures are sky-rocketing as they read this.) The biggest hindrance has been the turn signal. I turn on the windshield wipers every time we turn (because its on the opposite side too). So yesterday we drove to Bells Beach which is about 2 hours south of Melbourne. We are staying in a hostel. We ran on the beach last night and went to bed early (I have laryngitis or something). This morning we got up and ran again to the tune of a beautiful sunrise on the beach then drove down the Great Ocean Road which is basically just a long windy road that goes along the southern coast with lots of lookout points. We saw our first koala! We stopped at a village and sampled some turkish delight (I thought that only existed in the land of Narnia.) On our way back we visited a couple wineries, one of which was far better than the other. This evening we walked on the beach again and are now playing cards. (Well Jess is playing cards by herself while I type this.)

I am not sure when we will put up pictures yet. I am a little scared to use my computer because last night jess plugged up her hair dryer in our electrical outlet converter and it blew up! Left singe marks on her hand (the voltage is different here)! So no more hair dryer in australia for us. Needless to say I don't want to blow up my Dell. We'll wait til we go to another location where there are other Americans with laptops and we feel more comfortable or something.

We are excited about tomorrow! We are going to the world RipCurl surfing competition! If it happens to be televised in America don't plan to see us anywhere because we'll be blending in with the sand because we're so pale.

That's all for now. Excuse the typing errors because I'm doing this from my phone. We miss everyone. Well kinda...
